Reliability

Each year, PECO invests heavily to maintain its electric delivery system to improve system performance, as well as upgrading, modernizing and expanding for the growing needs of its customers and communities in the region.

PECO will spend more than $500 million on system maintenance, performance upgrades and capacity expansion projects in 2010 to maintain the reliable service our 1.6 million electric and 486,000 gas customers have come to expect.

PECO’s electric system is made up of many different devices all working together to carry electricity from power plants to your home or business. The diagram below identifies and describes some of these systems.

	Electricity is generated at one of the many different power plants located throughout the region.
	Electricity travels from the power plant over high-voltage transmission lines to substations.
	At a substation, the electricity voltage is lowered so that it can travel over the distribution system.
	Transformers, both aerial and underground, reduce the electricity voltage even further so it can be accepted by the home or business.
	Service lines carry electricity to the home or business.
