Achieving greenhouse gas reductions

At PECO we actively pursue every opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. PECO's many climate initiatives support Exelon’s greenhouse gas reduction goals like Exelon 2020, A Low Carbon Roadmap, which is a comprehensive, ambitious, industry-leading strategy developed by Exelon, PECO's parent company.
Exelon reduced or avoided more than 18 million metric tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2013, surpassing its Exelon 2020 goal of eliminating 17.5 million metric tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions per year by 2020. This is more than the company’s current annual carbon footprint and is equivalent to taking nearly 3.8 million cars off American roads and highways.

PECO has reduced Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by more than 54 percent since 2001 through various programs including:

  • Energy reduction efforts including the Leadership in Environmental and Engineering Design (LEED) program.
  • Fleet of environmentally friendly vehicles.
  • Enhanced recycling efforts.
  • Programs to reduce GHG emissions from electrical equipment and gas distribution system.
