PECO Completes $230,000 Project to Improve Natural Gas Service for Customers in Borough of Media

PHILADELPHIA (October 9, 2014) – PECO recently invested more than $230,000 to expand natural gas availability and improve service for customers in the Borough of Media, Delaware County.

The project included the replacement of existing natural gas main and bare steel natural gas service lines with new plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable and improves service.

Work was completed on Front Street between Olive and Orange streets; on Veterans Square between Jasper and Front streets; and on Jasper Street, east and west of Veterans Square.

The project is part of nearly $90 million in capital investments that PECO is making to its natural gas system this year. This includes inspecting equipment, completing necessary repairs or replacements, performing preventative maintenance work, and installing additional natural gas main and service lines to bring natural gas service to new customers.

“Each year, we review system performance and identify areas to meet the growing needs of our customers,” said Ron Bradley, PECO vice president of Gas Operations. “This work ensures we can continue to provide safe, reliable natural gas service to our customers.”

PECO serves about 177,000 natural gas customers in Delaware County. The company maintains a rigorous maintenance and inspection program to ensure safe and reliable service for more than 500,000 natural gas customers. PECO operates and maintains more than 12,000 miles of natural gas distribution and service lines, and 31 miles of natural gas transportation lines in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Lancaster counties.
