PECO Completes $3 Million Natural Gas Improvement Project in Yeadon Borough

PHILADELPHIA (December 29, 2014) – As part of PECO’s efforts to provide safe and reliable natural gas service, the company has invested $3 million on 10 improvement projects in Yeadon Borough, Delaware County. This work began in May and is scheduled to be completed in early February.

These projects include the replacement of existing natural gas main and bare steel natural gas service lines with new plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable and improves service. This work will expand natural gas availability and improve service for area customers.

Work has already been completed on Brookside, Cedar, Redwood, Union, Wycombe and Yeadon avenues, and Baily and Robin roads. PECO currently is completing work on portions of Connell, Orchard and Rader avenues, Church Lane and Penn Street.

These projects are part of nearly $90 million in capital investments that PECO is making to its natural gas system this year. This includes inspecting equipment, completing necessary repairs or replacements, performing preventative maintenance work, and installing additional natural gas main and service lines to bring natural gas service to new customers.

“Each year, we review system performance and identify areas to meet the growing needs of our customers,” said Ron Bradley, PECO vice president of Gas Operations. “This work ensures we can continue to provide safe, reliable natural gas service to our customers.”

PECO serves about 177,000 natural gas customers in Delaware County. The company maintains a rigorous maintenance and inspection program to ensure safe and reliable service for more than 500,000 natural gas customers. PECO operates and maintains more than 12,000 miles of natural gas distribution and service lines, and 31 miles of natural gas transportation lines in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Lancaster counties.
