PECO Honored for Exemplary Safety Performance by American Gas Association

PHILADELPHIA (June 2, 2014) – For the second year in a row, the American Gas Association (AGA) has recognized PECO with its Safety Achievement Award for experiencing the lowest Days Away, Restricted and Transferred (DART) incident rate among large electric and natural gas utilities. The company was recognized with this significant achievement for its 2013 performance at the AGA Operations Conference recently held in Pittsburgh, PA.

AGA President and CEO Dave McCurdy commended PECO for the company's outstanding safety record. "America's natural gas delivery system is the safest, most reliable energy delivery system in the nation. This is due to the hard work and dedication of the employees of our local natural gas utilities," said McCurdy.

The AGA Safety Achievement Award is given to member companies achieving the lowest DART incident rate — a mathematical calculation of OSHA-recordable injuries and illnesses per 100 full-time employees that resulted in days away from work or restricted work activity. PECO's Gas Operations division achieved a DART incident rate of .45, one of the lowest injury rates in the industry.

PECO employs about 300 employees in its natural gas delivery and plant operations who are responsible for building and maintaining the utility's natural gas distribution network and securing natural gas for the company's more than 500,000 customers across Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and a portion of Lancaster counties.

"This award is a testament to PECO's unwavering commitment to safety and exemplifies the hard work and dedication of our employees to keep safety at the forefront of everything we do," said Ron Bradley, vice president of PECO Gas Operations. "We will remain focused on continuing this positive trend moving forward."

In addition to his role at PECO, Bradley also serves as second vice president of the AGA Managing Committee and accepted the award on the company's behalf.

PECO continues to set new records in safety and reliability, two of the company's core focus areas. In 2013, PECO's overall OSHA-recordable rate of .57 marked the best safety performance in the company's history. In addition, PECO's ongoing system enhancement projects contributed to the company's record-breaking electric and natural gas reliability performance in 2013 with customers experiencing the fewest number of outages in the company's history, surpassing previous records set in 2012.
