PECO Investing more than $3.5 Million in Cheltenham Natural Gas Equipment

Projects to improve natural gas service for customers in Cheltenham Township

PHILADELPHIA (April 17, 2014) – PECO will spend approximately $3.5 million on 21 projects to expand natural gas availability and improve service for customers in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County. Work began in March and will occur through August 2014.

These projects include the replacement of existing natural gas main and bare steel natural gas service lines with new plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable and improves service.

Work will be completed on Ashbourne, Church, Green Briar, Mill, Old York, Rambler, Stahr and Westminster roads; Gerard, Glenside, Harrison, High School, Montgomery, Park, Spring and Union avenues; and Forrest Hills Drive and Aspen Way.

The projects are part of nearly $90 million in capital investments that PECO is making to its natural gas system this year. This includes inspecting equipment, completing necessary repairs or replacements, performing preventative maintenance work, and installing additional natural gas main and service lines to bring natural gas service to new customers.

"Each year, we review system performance and identify areas to meet the growing needs of our customers," said Ron Bradley, PECO vice president of Gas Operations. "This work ensures we can continue to provide safe, reliable natural gas service to our customers."

Residents and business owners will be notified as work is scheduled to begin on their street.  PECO also will coordinate the replacement of service lines with customers.

PECO serves about 167,000 natural gas customers in Montgomery County. The company maintains a rigorous maintenance and inspection program to ensure safe and reliable service for more than 500,000 natural gas customers. PECO operates and maintains more than 12,000 miles of natural gas distribution and service lines and 31 miles of natural gas transportation lines in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Lancaster counties.
