PHILADELPHIA (January 21, 2015) – As part of PECO's efforts to provide safe and reliable natural gas service, the company is investing more than $10 million to enhance the local natural gas distribution system to benefit customers in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.
These projects are part of a multi-year plan to modernize PECO's natural gas system and enhance safety and service in the area. Work will occur in phases, beginning in late January and ending in November 2015.
Work will include the replacement of existing natural gas main and bare steel natural gas service lines with new plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable and improves service reliability.
PECO will work to minimize the impact on area traffic and will coordinate work with any planned township or utility projects. Crews will be working in the following areas:
"We continuously review our natural gas distribution system to identify opportunities to further improve service and enhance safety," said Ron Bradley, vice president of Gas Operations. "This work ensures we can continue to provide safe, reliable natural gas service to our customers."
These projects are part of nearly $90 million in capital investments that PECO is making to its natural gas system this year. This includes inspecting equipment, completing necessary repairs or replacements, performing preventive maintenance work, and installing additional natural gas main and service lines to bring natural gas service to new customers.
