Spring City Natural Gas Customers Benefit from $750,000 PECO System Investment

PHILADELPHIA (July 23, 2015) – As part of PECO’s commitment to provide safe and reliable natural gas service, the company is investing $750,000 to enhance the local natural gas distribution system in Spring City, Chester County.

This work is part of a multi-year plan to modernize PECO’s natural gas system and enhance service in the area.

“We continuously review our natural gas distribution system to identify opportunities to further improve service and ensure safety,” said Ron Bradley, vice president of Gas Operations. “This work helps us continue to provide safe, reliable natural gas service to our customers.”

The project will include the replacement of existing natural gas main and bare steel natural gas service lines with new plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable and improves service reliability. Project work began in June and will occur in phases through November 2015.

Work will be completed along Broad, Cedar, Chestnut, Church, Hall, Main, Wall and Walnut streets. Work will be coordinated with any planned township or utility projects to minimize the impact to area traffic and the community.

These projects are part of nearly $90 million in investments that PECO is making to its natural gas system this year. This includes inspecting equipment, completing necessary repairs or replacements, performing preventive maintenance work, and installing additional natural gas main and service lines to bring natural gas service to new customers.

PECO serves about 75,000 natural gas customers in Chester County. The company maintains a rigorous maintenance and inspection program to ensure safe and reliable service for more than 500,000 natural gas customers across its system. PECO operates and maintains more than 12,000 miles of natural gas distribution and service lines, and 31 miles of natural gas transportation lines in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Lancaster counties.
