PHILADELPHIA (April 13, 2021) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced PECO as a recipient of the 2021 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Award for the fourth time for its outstanding leadership in reducing customer energy bills and tackling climate change. This is the seventh time overall that PECO has been honored with an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award.
Since the inception of PECO's Energy Efficiency and Conservation program back in 2009, PECO's residential and commercial customers have reduced energy consumption by 4.2 billion kWh – enough electricity to power 506,000 homes for a full year. PECO programs have also granted more than $350 million to customers in rebates and incentives.
"Being recognized once again by the EPA with their Sustained Excellence Award for our efforts to save customers energy and money truly is an honor," said Mike Innocenzo, PECO president and CEO. "We're committed to providing meaningful customer savings and comprehensive energy solutions for our customers."
Despite the pandemic challenges of 2020, PECO continued to help low-income customers save money by safely mailing more than 32,000 self-install energy saving kits. In addition, PECO launched virtual options for its Energy Assessment and LEEP programs, eliminating the need for an advisor to physically visit a customer's home.
The Sustained Excellence award is the highest honor bestowed by the ENERGY STAR program. Winners are part of a distinguished group that has made a long-term commitment to fighting climate change and protecting public health through energy efficiency.
Winners range from small, family-owned businesses to Fortune 500 organizations and represent energy-efficient products, services, new homes and buildings in the commercial, industrial and public sectors.
"ENERGY STAR award-winning partners are showing the world that delivering real climate solutions makes good business sense and promotes job growth," said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. "Many of them have been doing it for years, inspiring all of us who are committed to tackling the climate crisis and leading the way to a clean energy economy."
PECO and its Exelon sister companies BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power, and Pepco are also ENERGY STAR award recipients.
Winners are selected from a network of thousands of ENERGY STAR partners.
