PHILADELPHIA (December 7, 2016) – This week, 22 new PECO aerial line mechanics and 10 new energy technicians celebrated the completion their intensive training programs, joining the front lines to ensure safe and reliable energy service for PECO customers across the region.
PECO's 13-week aerial line school training program develops the fundamental skills new aerial line mechanics need to work safely on the company's electric distribution system. In addition, the company's energy technicians completed their 18-month program, which included 10 weeks of classroom instruction and 16 months of on-the-job training. PECO is the only Pennsylvania utility that has personnel who are cross-trained and able to respond to electric and natural gas emergencies.
"Our graduates have my deepest congratulations," said Craig Adams, president and CEO. "This is tough, physically challenging work. But the training these individuals received – from some of the best in the industry – has them well positioned to safely and successfully work on our systems and meet the needs of our customers."
In addition to field maintenance and repair skills, the programs focus on safety, distribution system fundamentals, electric theory, circuit design, emergency response and first aid. Candidates also develop an essential understanding of the company's advanced electric distribution equipment.
