Recognizing the tireless work of PECO field workers to provide safe and reliable energy service to area customers
PHILADELPHIA (July 10, 2018) –In celebration of National Lineworker Appreciation Day, PECO salutes the men and women who work tirelessly, day-in and day-out, to provide safe and reliable energy services to customers across the region. PECO celebrates more than 1,100 utility workers who operate and maintain electric and natural gas systems and facilities and respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, often in challenging conditions, and on weekends and holidays to keep the lights on and the natural gas flowing for customers.
"We are proud of our field employees who work in challenging conditions to bring safe and reliable electric and natural gas service to both our customers and to others across the country during times of need," said John McDonald, PECO senior vice president and COO. "We are deeply impressed and thankful for their tireless service and continued commitment to our customers. Including working around the clock in March to restore service after Winter Storms Riley and Quinn and during a historic seven-week mutual assistance deployment to Puerto Rico."
PECO is actively exploring innovative technologies that can improve system reliability, and its lineworkers make implementing those technologies possible. Examples include using drones to enable more efficient equipment inspections, installing reclosures which can automatically restore service or isolate damage and installing reinforced tree-resistant aerial electric lines.
PECO joins the Electric Edison Institute, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and energy companies across the nation, including Exelon sister utilities Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power and Pepco, in honoring electric field workers.
