PECO Employee Honored for his Innovation at 2018 Black Engineer of the Year Awards STEM Conference

​PHILADELPHIA (February 27, 2018) – PECO’s Justin Hale was recently recognized at the 2018 Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) conference in Washington D.C. Hale was honored as a Modern Day Technology Leader.

“Justin has my deepest congratulations,” said Craig Adams, PECO president and CEO. “These awards represent the ongoing dedication of our employees, who are working every day to develop innovative ideas and solutions to transform the future of energy for our customers.”

Hale is PECO’s New Business manager for Bucks and Montgomery counties in southeastern Pennsylvania. He has been with PECO for 10 years and is active in several employee network groups such as the Exelon African American Resource Alliance (EAARA) and the PECO Political Action Committee (PAC). Justin is also involved in several professional organizations such as the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Urban League of Philadelphia and Northeast Gas Association (NGA).

Justin is an active member of his community and has co-founded a non-profit outreach group that strives to meet the needs of the underprivileged in Northwest Philadelphia. Justin tutors high school and college students in advanced math and science, and works in the music ministry and the sound department at a multi-ethnic church in Philadelphia.

Two other employees from across the Exelon family of companies were also honored for their achievements at the BEYA Conference— Taiwo Alo from BGE was named the Errol B. Davis Legacy Award winner, and Serena Wilson-Archie from Exelon Generation was honored as a 2018 Science Spectrum Trailblazer.

The BEYA STEM Conference brings together students, college administrators, recruiters, engineering and IT professionals, scientists and high-level decision-makers from the corporate, government and military communities in an effort to broaden diversity in this country's technical and scientific work forces. The Modern Day Technology Leadership Awards are presented to those who are shaping the future of STEM related industries.
