Electric Power Research Institute recognizes two projects that will help energy companies improve reliability, five total projects from Exelon received awards
PHILADELPHIA (February 21, 2019) – The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) recently honored two PECO employees with the Technology Transfer Award, an annual award given to utility employees who have explored and implemented innovative technologies on behalf of their company and the industry.
"We are working every day to advance smart energy initiatives for our customers and for our employees," said Mike Innocenzo, PECO president and CEO. "These awards demonstrate our continued commitment to new and innovative technologies across all areas of our company. We are proud of all our employees across PECO and Exelon that have received EPRI's Technology Transfer awards."
Aileen Gallagher, engineer, and Eric Stein, manager, R&D and New Technology Projects, were part of a team of employees including fellow Exelon utilities ComEd and PHI that helped lead a research demonstration project that installed more than 250 energy management circuit breakers (EMCB), a device that can allow utilities and customers to monitor and control electricity use, across 12 utilities, at over 60 sites and in 19 states. This demonstration project has vetted EMCB's for multiple use cases, identified installation challenges and helped to test the data collection system and associated tools.
The awards were presented during EPRI's Power Delivery and Utilization (PDU) awards dinner in San Antonio, Texas on February 12.
"The 2018 Technology Transfer Award winners have demonstrated initiative, collaboration and leadership and represent the very best in power industry R&D," said Arshad Mansoor, senior vice president of R&D at EPRI. "They're shaping, enhancing and transforming the power system of the future by harnessing new and evolving technologies that can deliver benefits to their companies and the entire power industry."
Nineteen employees from Exelon's utilities and generation fleet received a total of four awards.
