Company chosen as an environmental steward in honor of Earth Day
PHILADELPHIA (April 20, 2018) – PECO was recently awarded the 2018 Environmental Champion designation by Market Strategies International (MSI) for its dedication to supporting the environment and for the performance of its environmental programs. To become an 'Environmental Champion', an energy company needs to demonstrate its support for the environment by promoting clean energy and environmental causes, encouraging environmentally friendly fleets and buildings, and consistently seeking ways to protect the environment. Exelon's BGE and ComEd were also recognized by MSI as 'Environmental Champions.'
"PECO is honored to be recognized for promoting clean energy and implementing programs that help our customers manage their energy consumption," said Ellen Cavanaugh, vice president of support services for PECO. "We're proud to support these initiatives, which underscore PECO's ongoing commitment to the environment and the communities we serve."
This year's 43 environmental champions were selected based on achieving a top-quartile industry or top-two benchmark segment score, or being within 20 points of the top benchmark score and above industry average for environmental dedication.
PECO's commitment to environmental stewardship aligns with the goals of its parent company, Exelon Corporation, which has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index 12 straight years. For five consecutive years, PECO has been named a U.S. Department of Energy ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for its commitment to using ENERGY STAR tools across its portfolio. PECO's annual Green Grants program, which helps local nonprofits fund projects or programs that demonstrate a commitment to the environment is a significant part of the company's environmental commitment. Since the program began in 2004, PECO has awarded more than $1.8 million in Green Region grants to more than 230 environmental projects across southeastern Pennsylvania.
PECO is part of the Exelon family of utilities, which include Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power and Pepco that share best practices to help power a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities.
