PHILADELPHIA (February 2, 2022) — Today, Exelon announced the separation from its former power generation and competitive energy business, Constellation Energy Corp. PECO remains a subsidiary of Exelon, the largest fully regulated utility company in the nation with more than 10 million customers. Of those customers, PECO serves more than 1.6 million electric customers and 540,000 natural gas customers in southeastern Pennsylvania.
This structural shift at the corporate level creates a renewed focus on modernizing the energy utility infrastructure to enable safe, reliable, clean, and affordable energy service for customers and equitably expand economic opportunity in the local communities where its six utilities operate.
PECO has been a part of Exelon for more than 20 years and has been able to enhance its performance during that time. Being part of the network of Exelon's utilities has allowed PECO to leverage economies of scale, lend resources during storm restoration efforts, and collaborate to deploy new programs and technologies. This shift bolsters these benefits and PECO will continue to provide essential energy service for the customers and communities it serves, guided by existing company leadership.
Through the updated structure, PECO will continue to invest in critical local infrastructure and innovative technologies to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving industry, improve reliability and resiliency, enhance safety and the customer experience, and transition to a cleaner energy future.
The company also introduced today new, modernized branding to reflect the company's continuing commitments and future focus. The updated branding will be adopted by PECO and all Exelon utilities, including Atlantic City Electric and Delmarva Power, which also serve the Greater Philadelphia Region. The company will continue to retain the PECO name, Philadelphia headquarters, regional service locations, and positive economic and philanthropic impact on the region.
"While PECO's appearance will change over time, we want to ensure our customers know that we are committed to being the trusted energy partner they've known for years and our dedication to the communities we serve will only grow stronger," said PECO President and CEO Mike Innocenzo. "Our purpose of powering a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities remains unchanged and we'll continue our efforts to enhance reliability and the customer experience and further our commitment to our communities and to a cleaner energy future."
PECO will begin phasing in the new logo on its materials and equipment over the next several years. As equipment, workwear, vehicles, signage, and other materials are replaced, the replacements will be updated with the new logo. The phased approach over several years is designed to take advantage of the natural replacement lifecycle of company assets.
