Company ready to respond locally and provides tips for customers to prepare and stay safe
PHILADELPHIA (September 11, 2018) – PECO is closely monitoring the track of Hurricane Florence, which is expected to make landfall in the southeastern United States on Thursday. The company has developed enhanced staffing plans to respond to any potential issues caused by the storm, should it shift toward southeastern Pennsylvania. In addition to PECO's 2,600 employees, the company has secured additional support from local contractors, and has placed crews and personnel on standby.
Should the storm impact the region, PECO reminds customers to stay safe during severe weather and prepare for possible storm damage. Customers should visit peco.com/alerts to choose how to receive messages from PECO regarding an outage or severe weather – via text, email or phone. Customers also should:
Have a flashlight with fresh batteries on each floor of your home, charge cell phones and other mobile devices, and have a supply of bottled water and easy-to-prepare, non-perishable food.
Customers experiencing any issues with their electric or natural gas service should contact PECO at 1-800-841-4141. Customers also can easily report issues with electric service at peco.com using their phone, tablet or computer, or through PECO's mobile app.
Stay away from downed wires, damaged electric equipment, and tree limbs and branches contacting electrical equipment. Always assume PECO's equipment is energized, even if there is an outage in your neighborhood. Report these dangerous conditions to PECO immediately at 1-800-841-4141.
More safety and storm preparation tips are available at peco.com/safety.
While PECO prepares for storm response, the company continues to participate in mutual assistance coordination calls with utilities in the path of the storm to determine if, and when, resources may be available from areas not impacted by the storm. Should the storm not impact southeastern Pennsylvania, PECO will work with its Exelon sister utilities - Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power, and Pepco—as well as other utilities nationwide to coordinate mutual assistance support where it is needed. PECO most recently provided restoration assistance in Puerto Rico and to areas of Florida that were affected by Hurricanes Maria and Irma last September.
