Industry-leading publication highlights collaboration and change
PHILADELPHIA (September 27, 2018) – Site Selection magazine has once again named PECO to its 2018 list of Top Utilities in Economic Development. PECO is one of a handful of utilities nationwide that has repeatedly earned this distinction. PECO has supported economic development in its southeastern Pennsylvania service territory for more than 60 years.
"As the energy industry continues to change and cleaner, innovative technologies and options are developed, PECO's role in economic development continues to evolve as well," said Liz Murphy, PECO senior vice president of Regulatory and External Affairs. "We support local, regional, and state business attraction efforts with utility information services during the site selection process. We help with large business retention and expansion projects, and we also provide developers with a single point of contact to determine available electric capacity and proximity to natural gas, estimate energy costs, introduce energy efficiency programs, and address advanced energy solutions throughout the development process."
Site Selection cites more than 110 business attraction and expansion projects in southeastern Pennsylvania this year. "This recognition highlights our work—and that of our partners—to stimulate investment, growth, and job creation throughout southeastern Pennsylvania," Murphy said.
"Any peek into the negotiations for a corporate real estate project will find at least one utility economic developer at the table. PECO is one of our strongest development allies," said Matt Cabrey, Executive Director of Select Greater Philadelphia. "We know that electric reliability, proximity to a natural gas main, and utility costs are critical factors in the development process, and PECO excels at providing customized information quickly and confidentially."
"Energy is the lifeblood of a modern economy. Pennsylvania's diverse energy portfolio, resources, and infrastructure are some of our biggest drivers of economic development, and partners like PECO play a key role in bringing our affordable and reliable energy to customers across the commonwealth," said Denise Brinley, Senior Energy Advisor at the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development. "We congratulate PECO for this distinction, and we look forward to continuing to partner with them to ensure that Pennsylvania's economic future is bright."
This is the ninth time that PECO has been recognized by Site Selection for its economic development efforts since the Top Utilities program launched in 1999.
