PHILADELPHIA (March 25, 2022) – PECO will be "going dark" on Saturday, March 26 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. to support Earth Hour 2022, the world's largest annual voluntary environmental action event to raise awareness about climate change. PECO helped lead the charge in the community, joining with the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Philadelphia and the City of Philadelphia to encourage others to power down the Philadelphia skyline in support of fostering a clean energy future.

PECO is building on its commitment to protect and preserve the environment by playing a leading role in the Greater Philadelphia region's transition to a clean energy future to combat climate change. Within PECO and across Exelon Utilities, the company is on a Path to Clean, reducing operations-driven emissions and supporting customers in their efforts to reduce emissions through access to clean and affordable energy solutions.

Prior to powering down its iconic Crown Lights system, PECO will display a special message to the public from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. atop the company's Main Office Building at 2301 Market Street in Philadelphia.

In addition to turning off nonessential lights during Earth Hour, PECO customers can take several steps to save energy, money, and the lessen the impact on the environment year-round, including:

• Schedule an energy assessment with a PECO Energy Advisor, who will show you ways to save energy and money in your home.
• Use a programmable or smart thermostat to efficiently set and control the temperature.
• Clean or replace HVAC air filters for maximum efficiency and improved indoor air quality.
• Caulk and weather strip windows and doors.
• Turn lights off when you leave a room.
• Close blinds/shades/drapes in the summer and leave them open in the winter during the day
• Find rebates for energy efficient lighting, appliances and equipment at peco.com/rebates
  

In tandem with these tips, PECO also encourages customers to replace energy-wasting incandescent light bulbs with new LED lightbulbs, which typically use 75-90 percent less energy and last about 25 times longer. PECO provides discounts for energy-efficient bulbs, which can be found at local retail stores and at peco.com/marketplace.
