Springfield Township Natural Gas Customers to Benefit from PECO’s More Than $1.5 Million System Investment

PHILADELPHIA (January 30, 2017) – As part of PECO's ongoing efforts to provide customers with safe and reliable natural gas service, the company is investing more than $1.5 million this year to enhance the local natural gas distribution system in Springfield Township, Montgomery County.

This work began in January and will continue through October 2017 and is part of a multi-year plan to modernize PECO's natural gas system. The project includes replacing existing natural gas main and bare steel natural gas service lines with new plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable and improves service reliability.

Crews will be working in Springfield Township on the following roads:

  • Briar Road from Meadow Lane to Neissen Road
  • Edann Road from Marks Road to Toll Road
  • Firethorne Lane from Laurel Lane to Orchard Way
  • Fraser Road from Haws Lane to Bent Lane
  • Heather Road from Pheasant Lane to Pleasant Lane
  • Hunters Lane from Toll Road to Marks Road
  • Laurel Lane from Pleasant Avenue to Mermaid Lane
  • Marks Road from Hunters Lane to Edann Road
  • Meadowbrook Lane from Stenton Avenue to Bethlehem Pike
  • Mermaid Lane from Laurel Lane to Orchard Way
  • Pleasant Avenue from Laurel Lane to Cheltenham Avenue
  • Stenton Avenue from Hillcrest Avenue to west of Whitemarsh Avenue
  • Toll Road from Edann Road to Hunters Lane

Work will be coordinated with any planned township or other utility projects to minimize the impact on area traffic and our customers.

"We continuously review our natural gas distribution system to identify opportunities to further improve service and enhance safety," said Ron Bradley, vice president of Gas Operations. "This work ensures we can continue to provide safe and reliable natural gas service to our customers."

These projects are part of more than $150 million in capital investments PECO is making to its natural gas system this year. This includes inspecting equipment, completing necessary equipment repairs or replacements, performing preventive maintenance work, and installing additional natural gas main and service lines to bring natural gas service to new customers.

The company maintains a rigorous maintenance and inspection program to ensure safe and reliable service for more than 516,000 natural gas customers. PECO operates and maintains more than 12,000 miles of natural gas distribution and service lines, and 30 miles of natural gas transmission lines in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Lancaster counties.

For customers not currently using natural gas, programs and incentives are available to help make choosing natural gas more affordable. And, customers continue to save money due to lower natural gas prices. PECO customers are currently paying among the lowest prices for natural gas in 15 years.
