From promoting and preserving children's literature to providing college students with the resources needed to realize their visions, PECO powers education in our local community.

BUCKS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE

PECO is here for our neighbors at Bucks County Community College. Recently, we helped the College restore three habitats to provide monarch butterflies with milkweed and nectar during migration. The habitats will also help STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) students conduct scientific research. In addition, we provided a grant to a team of student engineers to take their wind turbine alternative through a feasibility study, and help their work become a reality.

Energy Force

PECO Energy Force is a program that partners with non-profit organizations 501(c)(3) to train adults with developmental disabilities to serve as Ambassadors for PECO's Energy Efficiency programs. Our Ambassadors educate the public about ways to save energy and money. The Ambassadors receive training and resources that help them to create fun, interactive demonstrations that deliver simple energy-efficiency tips to their peers and other audiences, spreading key messages about the benefits of energy efficiency and conservation at home.

Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania

PECO is a proud supporter of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania which serves more than 40,000 girls with the assistance of 15,000 adult volunteers throughout the region. Exelon Foundation and PECO currently serve as the lead supporter of Camp Shelly Ridge. Camp Shelly Ridge provides thousands of girls with exposure to a wide variety of science, engineering, and environmental subject matter (STEM). In addition, PECO sponsors STEM Camperships. Camperships bridge the gap for families who cannot afford to send their daughter to camp. We also sponsor the Girl Scout's Annual Take the Lead Awards, which honors distinguished women from our community whose leadership and achievements have made the world a better place.

African American Children's Book Fair

PECO is one of the lead sponsors for the Annual African American Children's Book Fair. The Fair is the largest and oldest single-day children's literacy event in Philadelphia. It's the region's only literacy event dedicated to our African American community, and one of the biggest events for African American children's books in the country. Our sponsorship helps promote and preserve children's literature written by or about African Americans, to enlighten and inspire young people from every background and upbringing.

Philadelphia Academies

PECO is proud to help students meet their full potential. That's why we've been working for more than 40 years to establish career academies at local high schools. The academies help prepare students for further education and employment. And with PECO's support, schools have increased their graduation rate and even launched early workforce initiatives such as STEAM Scholars and a Teen Tech program. We're committed to helping our communities achieve, by changing today's education for tomorrow's workforce.

PECO Explorers Program

PECO is here for at-risk young men and women in our community. That's why we're proud to offer the PECO Explorers Program. This worksite-based program aims to inspire youth ages 14-21 to stay in school and develop the long-term goal setting skills they'll need to become responsible adults. Participants discover the true meaning of interdependence in their personal relationships and communities. And most importantly, they're given a chance to break generational cycles and achieve the success they deserve.

Please Touch Museum

PECO is proud to serve as the local presenting sponsor of Storyland: A Trip Through Childhood Favorites. Designed for children from birth through eight years old and adults, Storyland engages visitors in storylines and literacy activities that lead them to discover that it's never too early to develop a love of reading. The exhibit provides experiences that engage the six pre-reading skills identified by the Public Library Association and the Association for Library Service to Children: disposition to read, print awareness, letter knowledge, sound awareness, vocabulary, and narrative skills and comprehension. Exhibition runs until September 10, 2017.

One Book, One Philadelphia

PECO is proud to partner with the Free Library of Philadelphia to bring you One Book, One Philadelphia. One Book is an annual initiative that promotes reading, literacy, diversity, dialogue and public libraries through diverse works of literature. The program encourages community building throughout the Greater Philadelphia region. In 2017, One Book celebrated its 15th anniversary over 100 events and programs centered around The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddo.

Steppingstone Scholars

PECO believes all children deserve the opportunity to achieve academic success and a college degree. That's why we're proud to support Steppingstone Scholars and their annual Step Into Fall Gala. Steppingstone Scholars works with families and schools to provide rigorous educational programming and support for talented underserved students in the Philadelphia Region. We were very pleased to be honored at the 2017 Gala for our continued support over the years.
