During the next five years, PECO will invest approximately $7.8 billion across its natural gas systems in Montgomery County.
This work is part of a multi-year plan to modernize PECO's natural gas system. The project includes replacing existing natural gas main and bare steel natural gas service lines with new plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable and improves service reliability.
Work is occurring on the following streets:
Work will occur between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, conditions permitting. Restoration and paving will be coordinated with the Township and will begin within 45 days of the completion of the natural gas construction work.
These upgrades are part of our plan to replace existing natural gas main and service lines with new pipes, which enhance safety, are more durable and improve service reliability.
If work is required at your property, we will meet with you to assess the current natural gas equipment location, discuss meter relocation and answer any questions.
Work will begin on the natural gas mains in your neighborhood. This will require excavating the road to access the natural gas equipment, which may require temporary lane closures and metal plates to cover excavation areas outside of working hours.
A new service line will be installed from the natural gas main in the street to the natural gas meter on your home.
Any indoor natural gas meters will be relocated to the exterior of customer homes. If our meter is located inside your home, you will need to provide access so this work can be completed.
Crews will then complete final work to install the new natural gas equipment. You will be contacted to set a time to access your property. Your natural gas service will be turned off, our new equipment will be connected to your natural gas plumbing, and natural gas service will be turned back on. We will then re-light pilot lights on natural gas appliances. This appointment will take several hours to complete, so plan for natural gas appliances such as hot water heaters, furnaces, clothes dryers, ovens and stoves to be off during the work.
Final restoration work will then be completed. Once all natural gas equipment is upgraded, PECO's paving contractor will repave impacted road surfaces and temporary patches to sidewalks will be replaced with new concrete. This work will begin within 45 days of the completion of the natural gas construction work.
If you smell natural gas, leave the premises immediately and call PECO from a safe location, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Remember, if you smell gas, leave the area first, then call 1-800-841-4141.
